The Legacy of Sun Yat-sen

Established in 1924 by Dr. Sun Yat-sen, the founding father of the Republic of China, the university was originally named National Kwangtung University. Sun Yat-sen, a visionary leader, inscribed the school's enduring motto:
"Study Extensively, Enquire Accurately, Reflect Carefully, Discriminate Clearly, Practise Earnestly."

In 1926, after Dr. Sun Yat-sen's death, the institution was renamed in his honor. SYSU played a crucial role during China's transformative years, with various branches established across the nation, some of which have evolved into major universities like Wuhan University and Zhejiang University.
